Conferences and Symposiums

This page highlights the conferences, symposiums, and workshops I help organize to strengthen the research ecosystem in India. When I began my research career, the ecosystem was still small, with limited avenues for discussion and few platforms for receiving meaningful feedback. My goal here is to create inclusive forums, with a particular focus on behavioral and development economics, where ongoing work can be presented, rigorously discussed, and improved through constructive engagement from peers and experts. By promoting critical dialogue at every stage of the research process, these events aim to improve research quality, strengthen collaborative networks, and support scholars in developing work that is better positioned for publication in leading journals.

BREW-ESA 2019 – 2026

The BREW-ESA conference began as Behavioral Research in Economics Workshop (BREW) in 2019 at IIM Ahmedabad with the aim of advancing behavioral economics in India by bringing together researchers, faculty, and students to share new work and exchange ideas. The first BREW was jointly organized by Anujit Chakraborty, Jeevant Rampal, and me. While the conference started as BREW, since 2022 it has partnered with ESA to jointly organize the annual BREW-ESA conference in India. BREW-ESA is now an annual fixture in the Indian conference calendar and is widely attended by scholars based in India and abroad. It provides an invaluable platform for scholars in India to present their work to an international audience, especially since, for many, attending ESA world or regional meetings may not be readily feasible. BREW-ESA travels across institutes located in different parts of India and we are grateful to all those who have volunteered to host BREW-ESA conference.

Note: BREW-ESA 2026 will be held on 14th–16th December, 2026, at JNU, New Delhi.
